Marple is a Stockport borough town sitting at the junction of the Goyt and Etherow valleys at the edge of the Peak District. We reach it in 40 to 50 minutes from Salford via the M60 to junction 1, then east on the A560 and A626 through Hazel Grove and High Lane. The approach from the west along the A626 descends steeply into the Goyt Valley before Marple town centre, and this descent is a known location for brake problems and overheating in heavily loaded vehicles.

The A626 Stockport Road is the main road into Marple from the west and runs through the town centre area around Stockport Road and Memorial Park. It is the principal route for traffic heading between Stockport and the Peak District villages and carries a mix of commuter, leisure, and local traffic. Breakdowns on the A626 within the town create disruption as the road has limited width through the centre and overtaking opportunities are rare.

Marple Aqueduct carries the Peak Forest Canal over the River Goyt at a dramatic height above the valley floor and is a listed structure. The roads around the aqueduct, including Church Lane and the approach to Marple Locks, are narrow and require particular care with recovery vehicles. Visitors to the aqueduct walkway and the canal sometimes leave vehicles parked on narrow approach roads and flat batteries or tyre problems bring us to these locations.

Rose Hill Marple railway station is an important commuter station on the line to Manchester Piccadilly and the station car park generates callouts from flat batteries left over long working days. Marple Bridge to the south has its own village character and is accessed via the B6101 from Marple town centre. Compstall is a further residential village to the south-east in the Etherow Valley.
